I just found out that Andy passed away. I worked with Andy Baylor at Kings Contrivance, back in the 70s, he was the 1st cook under Chef Michel Beaupin. I admired Andy very much, he was a bicyclist before I became one, and I would always remember he would ride his bike from Owings Mills to Columbia back and forth to work. I also remember him getting hit with a beer bottle on the way home one night, it knocked his glasses off and they broke but that didnt stop him.
At Kings we would work 12 to 14 hours a day and he still had energy to ride home.
Im so glad to hear that he ended up in France. I remember working in the kitchen with him and he was listening to French tapes to learn French while he worked. Great memories, Thank you Andy. RIP.

I worked with Andy for many years at Country Fare Inn. He was always way ahead of most cooks in knowing how things should be done. He was not only a cook, he knew the science of cooking and he shared it with others. Andy transfered to Kings Contrivence restaurant and rode his bike there from Owings Mills!!! On his way home one night, a beer bottle hit him in the head from a passing car. He never said anything bad about who did it, he considered it just a part of life.
Andy, thank you for being a part of my life and thank you for being a great person.

I knew Andy when I worked with him at the Ships Lantern Restaurant in St. John USVI in 1981. I later met up with him in Antibes that summer. Lost track of him over the years, and only found this after seeing his old family address in an ancient address book. He was so fondly remembered by all of us in St John, and inspired my own passion for the Restaurant business. He was an amazing chef and a good friend. My condolences to his family. Liz Duffy, ST.
