Austin GEORGE Obituary

Austin Herbert George, 87, passed away on January 11, 2021, in Baltimore MD. He was a man of faith and service, dedicated to his family, and beloved by close friends and colleagues. Born in Philadelphia on April 24, 1933, and raised in Fairfield, CT, he graduated from Princeton University in 1955. He met the love of his life, Darlene Hughes, during his first job working for DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY. They married and later moved to Baltimore in 1959 where he began working for T. Rowe Price. He worked there for 33 years rising to Vice President and Head of the Equity Trading Department. After retiring in 1992, he and Darlene traveled the world for 20 years. Austin also enjoyed food and wine, sailing and cruising, playing tennis and bridge with friends, and collecting Asian art. Austin was dedicated to his church serving on its session and board of trustees, served for many years on the board of Roland Park Country School and was a strong supporter of the Walters Art Museum.

He was the loving husband to Darlene H. George for 62 years; beloved father of Julie Evans and her husband Dan, and Laura Cochran and her husband John; and grandfather to Austin Evans, Claire Evans DeSmit (Daniel DeSmit), Madeline Cochran and Andrew Cochran. His cherished sisters Mary Elizabeth McKenna and Priscilla Clark preceded him in death. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Service is private. A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Austin requested donations be sent to Roland Park Presbyterian Church or Roland Park Country School, both in Baltimore.

I have many fond memories of my uncle Austin. Early years of Thanksgiving gatherings, trips to Dairy Queen and teasing the four nieces.
Later years always there to listen or help. His sister, Maryme adored him and he felt the same. He has been my rock for many years and I will miss him immensely.
My thoughts and prayers to Darlene, Julie and Laura
Love you all
