Brian Briscoe Obituary

Dr. Brian D. Briscoe, of Baltimore, MD passed away on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023 at the age of 91. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and a dear friend to many. Dr. Briscoe was born in Dublin, Ireland. After graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, he immigrated to America in 1959, where he interned as a radiologist in Denver, Colorado, and later Mexico City. Dr. Briscoe moved to Maryland in the 1960s, where he worked at numerous local hospitals and taught at the University of Maryland Medical School. After establishing a private radiological practice in Pikesville, he eventually settled into a long career at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, where he was a treasured colleague until his reluctant retirement at the age of 85. A raconteur, he had a kind word and conversation for everyone and a laugh that would rattle the room. In addition to his enduring love of horse racing, classical music, taking photographs, and reading history and biographies, he will be remembered for his generosity, compassion, and ongoing support of countless organizations and foundations, particularly those that supported children, veterans and the Jewish community.

He is survived by his three children Robert Briscoe (Katherine Kiger), Adrian Briscoe, and Carla Briscoe; by his siblings Benjamin Briscoe and Ida Gressis; and by his grandchildren Ludi Briscoe, Eamon Briscoe, Mira Briscoe, and Ezra Briscoe. He was predeceased by his loving wife Tulia Briscoe (nee Boldrini), whom he treasured from the day they wed in 1970 until her sudden passing in 2002; and by his parents, Lillian and Robert Briscoe.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208, on Sunday, July 16th, 2023 at 1pm. Interment is private. Please omit flowers. Never to be forgotten.

Although I lived a short walking distance from Brian in Donnybrook, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, I met Brian at the racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, around 1992, where I was an official. We became great friends and shared wonderful stories usually, but not always, about horse racing both here in America and back in Ireland. Brian loved attending his local track at Pimlico and would travel back to his native Ireland, in March, just to watch his favorite race meeting on TV, The Cheltenham Festival. In his latter years, he took a share in a horse, trained in England, that won six races. One of our greatest thrills was betting "Punjabi" the winner of the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle in 2009, at 50/1. Right to his passing we conversed regularly and he was truly a great source of encouragement, advice and confidante. The great pity is, they don't make them like Brian any more. RIP my friend.
