Catherine Dyer Obituary

On January 18th, 2021, Catherine 'Kitty' Elizabeth Dyer (nee Wittmer) peacefully passed in her home surrounded by her loving family. Kitty was a devoted wife of 67 years to John Joseph Dyer III; a beloved sister to Mary Beatrice Walsh; and adoring mother to Mary Elizabeth Dyer and her wife Frances, Kathryn Anne Oktavec and her husband William M.D., Joanne Corcoran White and her husband the late David L. Sr., John Joseph Dyer IV and his wife Jackie, Patrick Vincent Dyer and his wife Julie, and Paul Kavanaugh Dyer M.D. and his wife Kimberly; cherished MomMom of Billy Oktavec, Kathleen Krepley M.D. and her husband Brayan, John Oktavec, Colleen Oktavec, David L. White Jr., Catherine White, Madelyn Dyer, Olivia Dyer, Paul K. Dyer Jr., Vincent Dyer, Benedict Dyer, John Dyer, Matthew Dyer, William Dyer, and Rose Dyer; proud great grandmother to Joseph Wolff Krepley.

MisKiti, as she was known, never met a stranger! She had the amazing ability to make everyone feel loved and special. Born to Vincent Coady and Beatrice Corcoran Wittmer of Baltimore, MD on August 2nd,1929, Kitty was raised in Federal Hill, graduated from Seton High School in Baltimore, MD in 1947, and attended St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, MD. Upon graduation, she took up an exciting position at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore, MD. She met her future husband, John, in Ocean City, MD on a rainy Memorial Day weekend in 1951. He was on a visit with his college friends and she was with her church choir when they met on the Boardwalk at 9th Street, under the Esskay Clock. They went out that night for their first date and were happily married three years later at Saints Philip & James Catholic Church in Baltimore, MD. Once married, John and Kitty started to raise their family of six children. They eventually bought a second home in Ocean City, MD, which became the summer gathering place for the ever-expanding Dyer family and their friends! On their joint 90th birthday in 2019, they were honored by the Mayor and City Council with a key to Ocean City, MD! Kitty brought joy and laughter to every occasion; never missed a birthday, graduation, or special event. She was truly the life of every party, and the sun we all revolved around. Faith and family were everything to her, and she was everything to us! Our family treasure will be missed beyond measure as Kitty Dyer is simply irreplaceable.

Mis Kiti was a woman of compassion and grace. She made one feel at home with love to spare. She loved her family and friends and welcomed strangers. She is one of a kind. Truly a beautiful loving person and an ally of all. Cherish the memories.
