Cathy Preston Obituary

Cathy Preston, 79, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on April 3, 2025, at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, Maryland.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Cathy was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred (Doelle) Carter. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to Robert Gardner Preston, and their love story began with their marriage on June 6, 1964.

Cathy was a cherished member of her community, serving as the Treasurer for the American Legion #39 in Bel Air. She was known for her vibrant personality and her love of life. Cathy enjoyed traveling, and for many years, she and Bob made an annual tradition of spending the month of February in Aruba, creating cherished memories in the warm sun.

In her downtime, Cathy had many hobbies and passions. She loved cooking and baking; she was known for her cross-stitching and could often be found creating beautiful pieces for her home and loved ones. Her green thumb allowed her to enjoy both flower and vegetable gardening, and she took pride in canning tomatoes to make her own homemade tomato sauce.

Cathy was also an avid fan of sports, particularly football and baseball, and was a loyal supporter of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Whether it was discussing the latest game or chatting with friends and family, Cathy was always happy to share her love for the teams. She was a social butterfly, never missing a chance to strike up a conversation with anyone she met.

A woman of many talents, Cathy also had a love for gambling and was often known for her good fortune at it. She was truly one of a kind-generous, lively, and always ready for the next adventure.

In addition to her husband, Catherine is survived by her daughter, Cindy Preston (Steven Schmidt), and brother, Joseph Carter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Evans.

God Speed to my friend, Cathy. Post 39 Legion Auxiliary already misses your outspoken, firecracker personality, your unselfish desire to help out with projects, your unwavering dedication to Veteran causes. See you on the other side!

I transfered as a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39 about 16 years ago and have had the pleasure of knowing and serving side by side with Cathy all those years. She was such a dynamic personality and I am proud to have been called her friend.
Rest well, dear Cathy, till we meet again. My deepest condolences to Bob and family. May God's Grace shine on you and give you peace and comfort. With love,

Diane Miller
