Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Charles Y. Barnett US Army Private.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Charlie was a childhood friend, his jokes and his contagious laughter entwined in my memories of middle school. I think about him every time I come home from college and pass his old house in my town, the one he lived in before he moved to Baltimore. I can't help but think of all the times he brought a smile to my face. He had a special quality to him; he was the kind of person you only associate with good memories, the kind of person you never forget.
Charlie, I know you're smiling, even from up there. To his family, my heartfelt condolences and my prayers are always with you.

To the family of Charlie,

Words can not express how sorry I am for your loss. I know this comes late, but I did not know until recently that he had left us. Charlie and I were good friends in Sykesville and often spent time together outside of school. He was always my class partner, if the project included art, Charlie was the one to draw, and he was excellent! I know you are all so proud of him, I am, and I want you to know that your family is in my prayers and Charlie will forever be in my thoughts.

My deepest sympathy,

To whom it may concern,

I recently attend a massive Motorcycle ride in Marseilles IL were we dedicate 362 new names to the Middle East Conflict Wall Memorial. On the ride they handed out dog tags with names of fallen soldiers. I was given a tag with PV2 Charles Yi Barnett, Age 19. I would like to get word to his family that it was an honor to wear their sons tag on the ride and it hangs on my wall next to my American flag. I have served in Iraq twice now so I understand the sacrifice men and women make every day. If you could help me either contact his family or get a message to them it would be a huge help. Thank You

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith:
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I'm Charles older brother Jason... I'm in the USAF and i remember seeing him when i went on leave before he left for his tour to Iraq. I will always remember what he said to my brother Jon and I that night... he said "I know you two are worried about me going but don't worry I will come back to see you and the rest of the family again, I love you, guys."
i just happen to find this site by accident. Well i came to find that there were many books like this one, filled with people giving their prayers to my little brother and the family. For that, I am forever thankful to see how people around the world are so full of passion. On behalf of my family we thank everyone for the unconditional support. Our family isn't the same without charlie but we all believe he's with us, through our memories and in our hearts, he will always be by our side. I know god welcomed him to heaven with open arms and takes care of him, like father and son. I love you Charlie... We all do. I know you leave here with no regrets and you will never say good bye. You fought for what you believed was right, fought for the freedom and for that we all thank you.
Again
I'm so thankful for everyone support and its a painful road we walk but Charlie will be there to help us along the way.
god bless everyone
thank you

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and
said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

The duty and service of Charlie to his nation, the Army, the First Cavalry Division, and the 12th Cavalry Regiment will never be forgotten, and will always be honored in our memories and in the gatherings of our veterans. We all individually and collectively mourn the great loss to us, to his friends, and to his family of such an outstanding young man. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. Charlie, we all love and miss you dearly. We can't believe it had to happen to such a young soul like yourself, one who was doing so much good for this country! You are such a brave man. Only the good die young, my friend. Charles, god bless you soldier and thank you for your service to a grateful nation, forever we will mourn you and all of our fallen heroes both before and after you. On 5/6/08 my nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward was killed in action in Iraq while on a routine patrol. My promise to him was that I would never forget him but also those fallen before and after him. When I made that promise to him the day we laid him to his final resting place I did not realize how often I would need to make entries on Legacy and it just breaks my heart knowing that so many other families have and will continue to feel the pain that our family has endured. To the Barnett family please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another we will never forget Charles!

A Prayer For Our Soldiers ~~

DEAR FATHER UP IN HEAVEN
WE COME HUMBLY TO YOU TODAY,
THINKING OF OUR SOLDIERS
WHO ARE VERY FAR AWAY........

WE ASK FOR YOUR PROTECTION LORD
PLEASE KEEP THEM SAFE AND WARM,
AND WHEN EVIL LURKS AROUND THEM
KEEP THEM FROM ALL HARM........

BLESS EACH FAMILY AND THEIR CHILDREN
WHO GO THROUGH DRED EACH DAY
WONDERING IF THEY WILL COME HOME
OR ARE THEY GONE TO STAY.......

GOD PLEASE PROTECT OUR SOLDIERS
WHO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRYS NAME,
PLEASE DEAR LORD KEEP THEM SAFE
AND BRING THEM HOME AGAIN........

OUR COUNTRY STANDS FOR FREEDOM
WE FIGHT TO KEEP THE CAUSE,
WE MUST ALL STAND TOGETHER
NO MATTER WHAT THE COST......

SO DEAR FATHER UP IN HEAVEN
WONT YOU HEAR OUR PLEA,
BRING PEACE TO EVERY NATION LORD
SO OUR COUNTRY WILL BE FREE........

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

Safely Home

May God hold Charles in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Pvt. Charles Yi Barnett our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Charles. And to Charles it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Charles, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Charles’ family and loved ones.
