Charles Spoerer Obituary

Age 76, a long-time resident of Ocean City, MD, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023, after a brave fight with recurrent cancer. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Jeanne Spoerer Thompson of PA; Barrie H Islev-Petersen of MD; Tyler P Houck and John L Spoerer, both of FL; his niece Lauren H Madsen and nephew Edward (Ted) J Hoffman.

A well-respected member of the restaurant industry in Ocean City for over 40 years, Bucky will be remembered for his wit, hard work and independent spirit. He loved the ocean, from his early days of surfing up and down the East Coast, to his retirement days of sitting on the beach to watch the sunrise.

He is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Catonsville Community College and served in the Maryland National Guard during the late 1960's.

As I noted in my comments last June 15, 2023, Bucky and I grew up on the same street. I recently found this ancient photo- perhaps circa 1950 or 1951- of Bucky and me on the back terrace of my home on Mossway. Bucky is on the right. We were clearly dangerous gunslingers and desperados! This gunslinger will miss him.

Uncle Bucky, it meant so much to see you every summer in Bethany. I´ll especially miss our annual hard shell crab feast and going to Harpoon Hannah´s. Thank you for being my uncle and for all the memories. -Your nephew Ted

We will miss you Bucky! Loved our dinners and talks when visiting the beach. Always remember to look at tiny pieces of folded paper as it may be the bill! May you rest in peace. Love, Cheryl

I am so sorry to hear of Bucky's demise. He and I grew up a few houses apart on the beautiful street, Mossway, in the Pinehurst area of Baltimore County. He was my "first friend." I have many fond memories of trick or treating together, playing hide and seek with the numerous neighborhood kids, playing softball, and experimenting with rockets as amateur astronauts. We never reconnected after college and went our separate ways. My regrets to his sister Jeannie and the other family members I got to know. RIP. Mike Dodd
