Charlotte (Moseley) Ober Lord Goodwin died on Thursday, February 23, 2023 after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Baltimore, born in the city on June 14, 1934. She resided in Guilford, her home for the past 65 years.
Charlotte had a sense of humor and a spirit of calm, surrounded as she was by her very active children and grandchildren. While it seemed like the family was the center of her world, actually she was the center of the family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club for the pleasure of reading and socializing with friends. She liked being out in nature and was an avid gardener. She was generous with her time and supported many organizations in Baltimore and in
Woods Hole, Massachusetts, which is where the family summered. She served on the Boards of Calvert School and The Family and Children's Society (now The Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland).
Charlotte attended Calvert School and graduated from Foxcroft ('53) before attending Vassar College, which she left in 1955 to marry Dr. Mason Faulconer Lord, a pioneer in geriatric medicine at Baltimore City Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. After Dr. Lord's death in 1965, in 1969 she married Charles "Shang" Goodwin, also of Baltimore, to whom she was married until his passing in 2008.
Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, J. Hambleton and Charlotte Moseley Ober, of Baltimore, and by her oldest daughter, Charlotte (Acha) Moseley Lord. She is survived by three children, Mason F. Lord Jr., Hambleton D. Lord, and Rebekah Lord Gardiner, and eight grandchildren (Mason III, Alexander, and James Lord; Helen, Julia, and Olivia Lord; and Charlotte and Samuel Gardiner). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Goodwin clan, including her sister-in-law Emily Kemp of
Omaha, Nebraska, as well as nieces on the Lord side of the family.
The family would like to express deep appreciation for the companionship and friendship provided by Hattie Martin to Charlotte over the last two-plus decades of her life.
The funeral service will be private. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, 750 E. Pratt Street, Floor 17,
Baltimore, Maryland, 212102-3142 (tax ID: 52-0595110).
