Chieh Huang Obituary

CHIEH (JEFFREY) HUANG, 78, of Towson MD, succumbed to complications arising from pneumonia on January 21, 2014. "Jeffrey" was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shu-Ming Lai Huang, and by his daughters, Jeanne and Aileen, sons-in-law James and Richard, grandchildren Nikki, Alexander, Owen, Daniel and Sabrina, brothers Yuan and Hsi, their wives, and many nieces and nephews. Chieh was born in Beijing, China, moved to Taiwan, and came to the United States in 1960, earning a master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Chieh worked for Greiner Engineering until his retirement. Among his many projects, he designed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge towers for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (known for a period as 1 of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World) and the 1970 Memorial Stadium scoreboard. He served for several years as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the East Coast Chinese Family Camp, as a Director for the Baltimore City Chapter of the Traveler's Aid Society, and served as the first Principal and a founding member of the Chinese Language School of Baltimore. He will be remembered for his good natured spirit, calming influence, generous heart, big warm smile, love for tennis, and passion for building bridges for Chinese Americans between their Chinese heritage and American culture.

Services will be held 1pm EST January 28 at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (beltway exit 26). Memorial contributions may be donated in memory of Chieh Huang to the "Chinese Language School of Baltimore" (http://chineseschoolbaltimore.org), 19 Hillary Way Cockeysville, MD 21030.

Jeanne, my sincere sympathy to you and your family. Your Dad seemed like a remarkable man. In reading his accomplishments, I can only think that he would also consider you one of his greatest achievements.

Jeanne
Your dad lived an incredible life until the very end. Something many elder people don't get to experience. I hope in time your family finds peace and confort knowing this, despite his unfortunate passing. Your family is on a long and painful journey to receiver from his loss. Take time, be together, remember what was special to him and shut everything else out. I wish you and your family my sincerest condolesences in this difficult time.
