Cynthia Griffin Obituary

Cynthia Ann Griffin (Gilbert) , Cindy, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her home in Colorado Springs, on January 8, 2022. Her devoted and adoring mother was at her side. She was 41.

Cindy led an unconventional life. Her last 4 years were spent traveling the country by van, train and even by foot; seeking to discover herself, searching for her purpose and her place in this world, a world she often felt confused by. She landed in Sedona, Arizona where she finally felt a serenity she had been aspiring for her entire life. Cindy said of Sedona: I have never felt so whole, so close to God as I did in Sedona, I finally found where I belonged. God is everywhere in Sedona.

It is in Sedona that she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer that had already begun to spread to her bones, creating immense pain and putting an abrupt stop to her travels. Cindy chose not to persue aggressive treatment, rather she made one last journey to Colorado where she moved in with her sister Chrissy, husband Greg and their two children Izzy and Della and continued her spiritual journey of finding inner peace with her family by her side. She spent her remaining days living her life surrounded by family, friends, joy, nature, love and nurtured a wild flower butterfly garden that will be her legacy. She knew she would very soon be joining God, the God who had brought her back into the arms of her family and ultimately back into His loving arms.

She is survived by five beautiful children, her grandmother Lois Waldrop Gilbert, father Skip Gilbert, mother Donna Fayer and husband Micheal, older sister Chrissy Kozloski and husband Greg, older brother Dan Gilbert and wife Erin, younger brothers Kevin Gilbert and Cory Gilbert and wife Maddy and her step sisters Melody Buchannan and husband Shawn, Melissa Rosado and husband Raul, and Jamie Lane and husband Corde as well as 12 nieces and nephews, 4 great nieces and nephews and a large and loving extended family.

Her light shone bright in this world and she has left impressions of all types, on all kinds of people, in places all over the country. In many places we may never even know her impact as her wandering soul is still very much a wonder to us all- she is unique, often enigmatic to those of us who knew her well- she will certainly never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G Komen foundation for breast cancer research and to Ashley Inc in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

A celebration of her life will be held this spring/summer in Maryland.
