Not sure what to say?

December 25, 2010

Ann and Jessica:
I never knew your Dave, but I knew Dave's mom, Becky. I was one of her best friends at Eastern High School. The EHS website sent me the notice of Dave's notice, and I was shocked, to say the least. I have tried over the years to re-unite with Becky; my heart goes out to her and all who knew Dave. It sounds like he was an amazing young man/family man. Please accept our sincerest condolences.

I am a recent graduate of the Colorado Center for the Blind. Nanney Dave, as many of us fondly called him, arrived at the center at the beginning of my most stressful time. I was taking on the role of residential counselor for three middle school girls in the center's summer program while continuing my own classes full time and preparing for my graduation. Dave's presence in my classes became more and more important as time went by. He was always there to encourage me as he passed me and my girls on the way to school, he'd cook up a snack for me when I was too busy running back and forth to the freezer with my grad meal pierogies to make one for myself, and his third person brittish commentaries in our technology class made scanning my book fun. When I heard of Dave's passing, I was shocked and heartbroken-still am. But when I heard he pushed the other students out of the way, I was not surprised at all. His kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and love have impacted my life more than I can say. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. I have said it before, and I'll say it again, Nanney Dave is my hero. Every life that was touched by his is in my thoughts and prayers, especially his family and close friends. He will truly be missed by us all. We love you, Nanney Dave. Rest in peace <3

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our friend Dave... but with every Ravens game we will raise one to him, and every time we hear his voice on our iPod, Nieve will forever smile and say, "Hey! That's Mr. Dave!" We will always be here for you, for Jess and, of course, crazy Duncan. Our hearts are filled with love for you all.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear about Dave. He was such a great person. My husband and I always enjoyed being around him. He built and repaired our houses for us. We would think of things for him to do just so we could see him again. He will be missed greatly. Heaven has another angel and hero.

I saw on the news that David was killed in a tragic accident. I only knew Dave for a single day when he and his friend Jay were working their way together to get to a concert in South Denver in July. My wife and I met Jay and Dave at the light rail stations and helped them make their way to the concert. We ended up spending the afternoon and evening with them and our friends. I got to know a bit about Dave and his life and how he was dealing with his loss of sight and I was overwhelmed with his courage and strength in managing these incredible challenges in his life. Just the fact that he and Jay struck out on their own to get to the concert and back is a feat that I found incredibly impressive. I will always remember his sense of humor and acceptance of his situation and I hope to be as brave as he was if I’m ever presented with the challenges he faced. We had a great time with Dave and Jay that day and I hope they enjoyed their time with us.

Again, I only knew Dave for one day and I think he has affected my entire life. I grieve for his death and am thankful that I got the opportunity to meet him and spend some time with him.

Our condolences to all of his friends and family
