SMYLIE. On October 21, 2014, David Lane Smylie; beloved husband of Judy Grier Smylie; loving father of David II and Audrey. On Sunday, friends may call VAUGHN C. GREENE FUNERAL SERVICES, 8728 Liberty Road (Randallstown) from 2-6PM. On Monday, Mr. Smylie will lie in state at Union Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 8615 Church Lane, where the family will receive friends from 11-11:30AM with services to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Greater Washington DC Endowed Scholarship Fund, Jackson State University Development Foundation. Inquiries to (410) 655-0015.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Smylie's soul and to his family and friends. I have known him a couple of years and he was a very friendly individual that was committed to supporting the Lincoln University and especially the Athletics Department. He and his wife were a fixture at tailgating at football games- his son being a player on the team until this year when he served as a student coach. His son is a friend of my son Joseph who always talked about how Mr. & Mrs. Smilie would keep them well fed. It was such a shock to hear of his passing in that Mr. Smylie and I had just had a long talk during our Homecoming game about some concerns and improvements that are necessary regarding some other sports at the University. He always had the best interest of the students/student athletes at heart. His passing is a true lost for the Lincoln University. May God continue to provide many blessings to his family. Judy, D2,and Audrey your husband and father will be looking down with that smile that only he could have. I think now of when you would say something that surprised him his eyebrows would always raise. He would laugh, but it was the smile that you always remember. I worked with Dave for over 15 years and he was always so pleasant, and always willing to help. He will be missed by so many. He knew me as Barbara Ferguson and still would call me Ms. J. May God bless you and your children during your difficult days ahead.
