Deborah Joynes Obituary

Deborah Lavery Joynes of Midlothian, Virginia whose life was defined by her passion for lifelong learning, travel, and her family, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at the age of 78, following complications from Alzheimer's disease. Born on Thanksgiving Day in 1946, Deborah carried a lifelong spirit of gratitude and enthusiasm into all her endeavors. She was a proud product of Baltimore City Schools and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Frostburg State Teachers College in 1967, followed by a master's from Johns Hopkins University in 1972. For 32 years, she dedicated herself to her students, teaching high school French and sharing her love for language and culture. Upon retiring from teaching, Deborah embraced new professional chapters, first as a successful Realtor and associate broker for Long and Foster in Eldersburg, Maryland. In 2012, she and her husband relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia, where she channeled her love for new places into establishing a small travel agency. Above all, Deborah's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Bill; her son, Charles, his wife, Stephanie; and her beloved grandchildren, Sadie and Georgie, who were the light of her later years. Following a private family ceremony where her ashes were scattered, a memorial service to celebrate Deborah's life will be held at Matthews 1600, located at 1600 Frederick Road in Catonsville, Maryland on December 6, 2025 from 12-3pm. In lieu of flower, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
