Dolores Brooks Obituary

">BROOKS, Dolores Costello ">The youngest of three children, DOLORES COSTELLO BROOKS was born on December 1, 1929 to the late George P. and Ruth "Gertie" E. Coakley Williams. Dolores peacefully joined God on August 26, 2005. At a very young age, Dolores was nicknamed "Pinkie". She was reared in Baltimore City and received her formal education in the public school system, graduating from Douglas High School in 1948. Pinkie met Samuel Matthews while attending high school. They fell in love and married. From this union, they were blessed with identical twin boys, Marvin and Daniel. Their marriage ended in divorce and she later married Wayne Brooks who preceded her in death. Pinkie spent the majority of her career as a Librarian in the Enoch Pratt Free Library system. After leaving Enoch Pratt Library, she worked as a librarian at Federal College in Washington D.C. and the Rica Institute for Children, Baltimore County. In addition, Pinkie worked as an Administrative Clerk in the Dept of Juvenile Services, and as an Administrative Assistant and Substitute Teacher at Windsor Hills Elementary School. In May 1995, Pinkie was forced to retire from Self-Pride Inc. due to a heart attack. She was very active in the community and served on the Board of Directors of the Windsor Hills Neighborhood Association. Pinkie was a devoted mother and enjoyed spending many Saturdays and Sundays in the summer at Patapsco State Park having cookouts with family and friends. Pinkie was preceded in death by her brother George Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving sons, Marvin and Daniel; a daughter-in-law, Rose Stafford-Matthews; four grandchildren, Kenny Dunlap of Arizona (currently in the Navy assigned to the Persian Gulf), Anthony Matthews of Colorado; Barbara and Alanah Stafford-Matthews of Arizona; one great granddaughter, Kayleigh Matthews of Colorado; a loving sister, Ruth E Cotten; and, a host of other relatives and friends. The Memorial Service for Pinkie will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005 at St. Katherine of Alexandria, Presstman and Division Streets, Baltimore, Maryland, 21217, Family Hour: 10:30 A.M., Services: 11:00 A.M.
