Donald Heacock

1942 - 2023

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Donald Robert Heacock, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who left us on September 13, 2023. He was 81 years old.

Donald was born on April 21, 1942 in Washington, DC to H. Ray and Betsey Evans Heacock. He attended UNC Chapel Hill where he earned a business degree before going on to serve in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He then joined Alex Brown and Sons, where he had a 30 year career as a financial advisor and manager, working in the DC, San Francisco and Baltimore offices of the firm.

Beyond his professional life, Donald also had a profound impact on several local institutions, bringing to every conversation and decision profound kindness, impeccable character, keen vision and shrewd intelligence. He served on the Boards of The Odyssey School, Glenelg Country School, Ladew Topiary Gardens, GBMC Foundation, Blakehurst Residents Scholarship Foundation as well as the Vestry of St. John's Church, Western Run.

Donald loved the outdoors. He enjoyed many different pursuits including: hiking, camping, skiing, bodysurfing, and especially sailing. For years, he and Melanie took their sailboat to Maine in the summer and the British Virgin Islands in the winter. He passed this love of sailing on to all three of his children, as well as his grandchildren.

Donald passed away surrounded by his wife and children after a battle with advanced dementia. He is survived by his wife Melanie, his siblings David E. Heacock and Peggy H. Towery, his children, Pamela Bilger, Cameron Heacock, and Brad Heacock, daughter- and son-in-law, Naomi Heacock and Todd Bilger, and four grandchildren: Emma and Riley Bilger and Grace and Faye Heacock.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm at St. John's Church, Western Run, 3738 Butler Road, Reisterstown, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to any of the above organizations.
