Donald Meyer Obituary



Colonel Donald L Meyer, husband of Beverly F. Meyer, beloved father of Diane Lauer, Ted Meyer and Lisa Dean passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on February 22, 2017. Donald was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 18, 1928. He graduated from The United States Military Academy at West Point with a BS degree in Engineering and a MS degree in Industrial Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1953 he married Beverly F. Meyer and had 3 children. As a 22-year Army officer, he held many positions and received numerous commendations including the Ranger tab and the Bronze Star and served two tours in Vietnam. After retirement from the Army, Donald became a general agent for Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal insurance company. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, gardening, traveling, reading and volunteering. Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Beverly, his parents Carolyn and Harvey Meyer and his son-in-law James Dean. He is survived by his children Diane, Ted and Lisa, their spouses Joe and Jeanne, his brother Mortimer Meyer, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A service will be held Saturday June 17th, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens located in Marriottsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, sympathies may be expressed through contributions to The USMA Class of 1953 Superintendent's Endowment and sent to: Office of Class Giving, 698 Mills Road, West Point, NY 10996-1607 marked for 'For Don & Bev Meyer's Memory Book page (19253-1953)'.
