Dorothy Brooks Obituary

Dorothy Jane Brooks "Dottie" (Nee Breidenbaugh) age 89, of Bel Air, Md., was taken to eternal rest by her angels, on Saturday June, 7, 2025. She was the wife of the late Thomas Eugene Brooks and the daughter of the late Milton and Mary (Coe)Breidenbaugh of Jarrettsville, Md. where she spent her early years on a dairy and poultry farm. She left the farm in 1982 and moved to Abingdon. Her husband and both parents died in 1993. She was a lifelong Harford County resident.

Dottie graduated from North Harford High School in 1954 and obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Harford Community College.

She retired in 1996 with over 42 years of dedicated Civil Service at Aberdeen Proving Ground where she was a supervisory Program Analyst. She was a Certified Acquisition Professional in the functional specialty of Cost estimating, financial and manpower management. She received the Superior Civilian Services Award, many exceptional performance awards, and many suggestion awards.

She lived a life of love devoted to her parents, her job and volunteering services. Dottie performed volunteer services at Aberdeen Proving Ground (while employed) in providing services essential to the Post Community. She enriched the quality of life for others through being a caregiver to many people and was appointed guardianship to several county residents.

Dottie became a hospice volunteer in 1997 now known as the Amedisys Hospice Care in Rosedale, Md. and in 2011 became a volunteer at the Senator Bob Hooper House (the Upper Chesapeake Health's Residential Hospice) at Forest Hill, Md. In 2009, Dottie was nominated and a recipient of the Harford's Most Beautiful People Award for 2009-2010. This award honored her continued volunteer contributions of time and talents to the citizens of Harford County. In 2022, Dottie was nominated and received the prestigious Nationwide Amedisys Annual Spirt of Excellence Award for the Hospice Volunteer of the year.

Dottie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Victory Chapter #40) where she was presented the Phoebe Award. She was a life member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers at Aberdeen Proving Ground; Boumi Ladies in support of Boumi Shrine Temple; member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Madonna AARP Chapter where she enjoyed many local travel tours with the travel committee; and she was an active and faithful member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Fallston, Md. where she received special mission recognition.

Before moving to the Avondell Retirement Community in 2010, Dottie enjoyed her beautiful home, entertaining, maintaining her flowers and her hobbies of scrapbooking, floral designing, knitting and crocheting. She also loved playing pinochle and dominos. At Avondell, Dottie helped with weekly bingo games, photographed activities sponsored at Avondell and displayed the pictures for all to see as well as enjoyed Avondell bus trips.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dottie's memory to the Senator Bob Hooper House located at 2007 Klein Plaza Drive, Forest Hill, Maryland 21015. Relative and Friends will honor Dottie's life at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, on Friday June 13, 2025, at 10:30 am. Funeral Services will follow on Friday June 13, 2025, at 12:00 pm. Interment in Highview Memorial Gardens.
