Oscar McCray Obituary

Be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.
SALTVILLE, Va. – Oscar Monda McCray, 87, surrounded by loved ones, went to rest with his Lord and Saviour on July 18, 2008, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Monda was a resident of Hayter's Gap, where he was loved and cherished by all who knew him. His humble disposition always rendered a loving heart. He was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army. He served as a deacon and trustee for 35 years at Valley View Assembly of God. During his work career, he was employed by Olin-Matheson and Clinchfield Coal Co. and retired from General Engineering. Inspired by the hand of God, his life was inspirational for those who were in his presence. Monda spent much of his free time fishing, looking for artifacts and taking pictures. He is loved and will be missed by all.
Monda is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Reba McCray, and their three children, Linda Dufour and Arthur of Meadowview, Va., Pat Dobbins and Ronnie of Leakesville, Miss., and Gary McCray and Loretta of Abingdon, Va. He is also survived by six grandchildren, David Johnson, Shelby Sheppard, Bryan McCray, Scarlet McDonald, Ryan Dobbins and Wendy Bennett; 10 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Julie, Cody, Mattie, Lauren, Miranda, Andrew, Maddax, Gracee and Juleigh; two great-great-grandchildren, Haylee and Emilee; and one brother, Ralph McCray.
The family will receive friends at the Valley View Assembly of God Church on Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 5 until 7 p.m., with the funeral immediately following. The Rev. Dennis Banks and Billy George Van Dyke will conduct the services.
Pallbearers include David Johnson, Cody Johnson, Ryan Dobbins, Ronnie Dobbins, Bryan McCray and David Bennett. Honorary pallbearers include Charles W. Henderson, Fred and Ronald Surber, Warren and Donald McCray, Michael Ralph McCray, Harold Johnson, Billy George Van Dyke, George Schrader, Mike Barrett and the men of the Valley View Assembly of God Church.
The committal service will be Monday, July 21, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the Forest Hills Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, with the Rev. Jimmy Nichols officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veteran's Honor Guard.

I am so sorry for the loss of Monda, but there is no doubt he is with the Lord now celebrating. He was a wonderful, kind man. He and "Mrs. McCray" will always be in my memories for their kindness, knowledge and wonderful family. I'll never forget the sights of their beautiful gardens and their hospitality.
