Edward Adkins Obituary

Edward J. Adkins, of Baltimore, passed away peacefully on

August 26, 2025, surrounded by

family. Born in Annapolis and raised in North Carolina, he met Cheryl at the University of North Carolina, where they began

a true partnership that would span 58 years of marriage.

Ed earned his law degree

from the University of Maryland, graduating in the top ten

percent of his class and receiving membership in the Order of the Coif. He built a distinguished career in employee benefits law at Miles & Stockbridge,

frequently recognized among Baltimore's Best

Lawyers and once named one of Baltimore's Best Dressed.

In retirement, Ed pursued his passion for fine

clothing through "Creations by Lalo", tailoring his own garments, and explored gourmet cooking. He was especially proud to have adopted his daughters from Chile, maintaining a lifelong love for the country and its people. Ed filled his days with classical music,

humor, and generosity, and treasured his friendship with Chuck Gerber above all others. He often said he had no regrets.

Ed is survived by his wife and partner Cheryl;

daughters Susan and husband Patrick Gillespie, Holly and husband Don Slack; grandchildren Edward, Elsie, Donna, and Ilona.

A viewing will be held Friday, September 5 from 9-11am, followed by a service at 11am at

Christ Lutheran Church, 701 S. Charles St, Baltimore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in memory of

Ed (Sire) became my beloved friend after a hilarious witty and biblical exchange over 30 years ago at Miles. I am blessed to have known the GQ King. I rejoiced when he informed me that his "soul insurance" was in good standing with God. Now, heaven has a new tailor; who's making custom robes looking so stylish.

Much love from his "church lady"

Having learned of Ed’s passing, a number of emotions are triggered. Profound sadness, of course, but it is also a reminder of the fondness and respect I have always had for a man who, through his generosity and friendship, affected my personal and professional future in so many ways. While I may have enjoyed some degree of success in my career, there is no doubt that it would not have been possible without Ed’s early guidance. I have been and will be forever grateful for his presence in my life.

Ed was my husband´s dear friend and colleague, but I too adored him. His warmth, humor and generosity made him an irresistible person whom I admired to my core. Once he surprised us with extraordinary gifts of a hand-made sports jacket for my husband and a blouse for me, both beautiful and perfectly matched to our preferences. His tailoring skills were remarkable, as was all else about Ed.
