Eleanor Ruth Ross

Eleanor R. Hennessy Pinard Ross, 96, of Westfield, PA, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 in Elkland, PA. She was employed as a state court reporter in the bankruptcy court in Portland, ME, and, moving to Maryland, in 1960, became a federal court reporter in Baltimore in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. After working for many years for two federal judges, The Honorable W. Calvin Chesnut and The Honorable Edward S. Northrop, chief judge, she became the first female reporter of debates hired in the United States Senate, Washington, DC, the position she held until she retired. During retirement, she attended Towson State University in Maryland, receiving her bachelor's degree and working towards completion of her master's degree. She is survived by her three daughters, Marlene (Gus) Edwards of New Freedom, PA, Cheryl Whiting of Parkton, MD, and Brenda (Joseph) Cochran of Westfield, PA. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Visitation will be at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 W. Main St, Elkland, PA, on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately at 1 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 111 First St, Elkland, PA, with Father David Bechtel celebrating the Mass.
