Eleanor Storck Obituary

Eleanor Dorsey Duke Storck died at Maplewood Park Place, Bethesda, MD on August 22, 2024. She was 97. Eleanor was born in Leonardtown, St. Mary's County, MD in 1927 and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1944 and from the College of Notre Dame (now University), Baltimore, MD, in 1948.

Eleanor taught high school in St. Mary's County before marrying Harry E. Storck, Jr of Baltimore, MD in 1951. Eleanor lived in Bethesda for 68 years and was active in civic, church, school and historical associations. She taught at Bethesda Community School for 28 years. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America for 41 years, chairwoman of the Southern MD Committee, a docent at Dumbarton House for 20 years, and the MD representative for the Dames and Lady of Dumbarton. She was a member of the Historic St. Mary's County Foundation and The St. Mary's Historical Society, and a proud member of The Ark & The Dove Society because her ancestors were one of the first European families to settle in MD in 1634. Eleanor was a member of Bethesda Country Club.

Starting on her 60th birthday, Eleanor traveled to many countries including England, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and China, and throughout the US.

Eleanor's first love was her family but history of all kinds was a close second. She loved to entertain and to garden. Eleanor was famous for her St. Mary's County 'stuffed ham', holiday egg nog, and rum cake.

Eleanor is pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, her parents Loraine Hodges Duke & Kenneth Duke; her siblings Kenneth Duke Jr., Virigina Coode Duke, and Priscilla Wentworth Hall. She is survived by her children, Dukey Marr (Bill), Elise Storck (Mark Haskell), Polly Bomstein (Howard), Harry Storck (Tricia), Ken Storck (Muffy). She loved all 11 of her grandchildren, their spouses, and 9 great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at Maplewood Park Place at a later date. A private interment will be in St. Aloysious Church Cemetery, Leonardtown MD. Eleanor will be buried with her husband and close to her parents and family.

Eleanor Storck was a cherished and close friend to my mother, Joan Nolan. Their friendship started in college, and grew through the years as they raised their families in the Washington DC area. The circle of life brought them together again, in an even stronger bond, as they shared their last 10 years of senior living at Maplewood Park Place. I will always remember Eleanor for her incredible zest for life!
She will be missed!! My love to her wonderful family, who were a constant source of joy to Eleanor!

Visits with Eleanor were always too short. I envision quite the reunion with her siblings.

Dear Mrs Storck- what a life well lived! I have many great memories of Harry and I'm certain all of your children were exemplary as well. You were so easy going around me when I would stop by your house. Certainly a pleasure to be around. I will definitely remember your fabulous smile! Peace be with you
