Eugene Goldstein Obituary

Eugene O. Goldstein, MD, beloved pediatrician who had practiced medicine in Pikesville, MD, died on March 11, 2017. He was 98 years old. Dr. Goldstein, a graduate of University of Virginia College and Medical School, also managed the Pediatric Allergy Clinic at John Hopkins Hospital until his retirement.
He was born in Hampton, VA, the 9th of 10 children into one of the first Jewish families on the Peninsula.
He met his first wife, Roslyn, at Sinai Hospital when he was an intern and she was working in the EKG department. They married in 1942 and soon after, he served in the Pacific as a Navy Lieutenant in Okinawa and Guam. After the war, they settled first in Baltimore and later in Pikesville where they raised three children. They were married for 37 years. After Roslyn died, he married Judith N. Goldstein (formerly Judith Nogi Snyder) and has been married to her for 37 ½ years.
In addition to his wife, Judith, Dr. Goldstein is survived by his three children, Nancy Ross of San Diego, James Goldstein, Ph.D. of North Potomac, MD and Martin Goldstein of Alexandria, VA. He also has 4 step-children from Judith's first marriage, Stephen Snyder of Baltimore, Peter Snyder, JD, of Boca Raton, FL, Elizabeth Snyder, who recently moved near her mother in Lake Worth, FL, and Robert Snyder of Seattle, WA. Together, Gene and Judy have 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandchild Scott Shapiro.
His son, Jim, recently wrote about his father's unique contribution to so many lives. Read more at http://tinyurl.com/EugeneGoldstein. Feel free to contact the family with any remembrances of Dr. Goldstein at [email protected]

Dr Goldstein was a pioneer with bi-lateral hip dysplasia. Because of him, I am able to walk today. He gave me an incredible gift and will always be my hero.

Dr. Goldstein was my pediatrician when I was a child. He got me through the childhood illnesses as well as polio (along with Dr. Kramer). I've thought of him often over the years and was sorry to stumble upon his obit. My heart goes out to the family of this wonderful man.

I loved and believed in Dr. Goldstein so much. He was my doctor and my son's as well. He has been and will be greatly missed. I've spoken of him to my family often as my mother and grandmother were also so fond of him.

I loved Dr Goldstein! I'm 43 and still remember his kindness! I sent all 3 of my kids to the practice after he retired. I became a pediatrician! Dr Goldstein will be sorely missed!

Dr Gene was a 2 generation doctor in my family. He was mine ,and then both of my daughters until he closed his practice in Baltimore and left for the Sunshine State. My Ob/Gyn was shocked when I told him my doctor was Dr.Gene. I was 29. But he made the call to him, and sure enough, Dr Gene had my file dating back 29 years!! He was dedicated in every way. I have missed him since his office with Dr Kramer closed, but followed his career through the articles on the internet. I was lucky enough to be treated in my illnesses by Dr Gene. His night visits weren't scary and I usually was feeling better just by seeing him. I have no doubt that the impact he made on each and every patient he saw will not be forgotten.
