Fred Davis Obituary

On May 21, 2023, Fred Alvin Davis Jr., born on November 3, 1933, died at the age of 89. Fred was the husband of Bonnie Davis for 59 years; the father of Barry Davis, Lynda Davis, and Lolly Forsythe-Chisolm; the grandfather of Kaylea Forsythe and Thomas Garay; the father-in-law of Darryl Byrd and Mark Chisolm; and the grandfather-in-law of Maria Garay. Fred was a Meteorologist for the Weather Bureau at the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport from 1969-1995. He earned the nick-name of "Light Dusting Davis" for predicting there would be a light dusting in February 1979 when 24 inches of snow fell. When a co-worker told him he missed the prediction by a mile, he said he only missed it by two feet. Fred was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He volunteered with many organizations including Ceasefire Maryland (formerly known as Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse-MAHA); Bello Machre; Opportunity Builders, Incorporated (OBI); Friendship Civitan Club; Viva House, Baltimore Catholic Worker; and the Ross Cove Beach Association. He was an avid sports fan of all of the Boston and Baltimore teams. On weekends, he could often be found with his son Barry on his boat named "Bonnie Weather." There will be a celebration of Fred's life on Monday May 29, 2023 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at Downs Park, 8311 John Downs Loop (Fernwood Pavilion), Pasadena, MD 21122. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted by Viva House, Baltimore Catholic Worker, 26 South Mount Street, Baltimore MD 21223 for their food bag program.
