George Heath Obituary

On February 9, 2024, George A. Heath peacefully passed away at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD. Born in New Hampshire in 1927 to the late Paul & Ruth Heath, George graduated from St. John's High School in Concord, NH in 1943 as Valedictorian when he was just 16 years old. After completing 2 years at New Hampshire University, George enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945 during WWII, where he served protecting the Atlantic Coast off New England until the war ended, after which he returned to UNH to finish his degree in Chemical Engineering.

In 1952 George married his wife of 71 years, Theresa Marie (Brochu) Heath who survives him. Early in their marriage they lived in many locations as their family grew, but finally moved to Maryland in the summer of 1966 where George stayed busy with not only his career and his family, but also with many favorite hobbies and pastimes including camping, traveling, gardening, and cooking, especially baking pies for the holidays. He enjoyed playing cards, chess, and other family games, but more than anything, he loved being with his family, both laughing and reminiscing.

Along with his beloved wife Theresa, George is survived by his loving children: Paul (Barbara) Heath; Karen (James) Poetzsch; Judith (Joseph) Ciarlo; Peter (Kim) Heath; Mark (Rebecca) Heath; David (Janet) Heath, and Denise (Bernard) Sprankle. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and sister Pauline (Heath) Healy.

Along with his parents, George was predeceased by two of his children, Diane Madden, and Michael Heath as well as two sisters, Grace and Lois.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15th, from 6pm to 8pm at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home, 1630 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD and on Friday, February 16th from 10am to 11am at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Charlestown Retirement Community, 711 Maiden Choice Ln., Catonsville MD, with a Funeral to follow at 11am. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

George always had a smile on his face and love to share. He always brought Communion to Rick and I if we were sick or recovering from a hospital stay. He was usually one of the first people out with his shovel when snow fell overnight and the only one with a clean driveway! We so admired his love of God and his family. To his family ... George and Theresa were the heart of our court - and we still miss them so much. Thank you for sharing your parents with us all those years. Please give Theresa our love.

George was my cousin, but because of the age difference, I did not get to know him very well until I spent a few summer vacations at his camp on Long Island in New Hampshire. I wish I had known him long before this, because as we got to know each other I realized what a wonderful person George was. Played a lot of games and had many laughs. Just a great guy. See you on the other side George.

George will always be remembered with love and respect. He was our neighbor for many years, and he and Theresa were not only friends, but an inspiration to all because of their loving and caring ways. To the family, we send you are deepest condolences, and know that you will comfort and cherish Theresa through the rest of her years. The Lord blessed you with two great parents. Our love to you all.

I remember Mr Heath as kind and thoughtful with an outgoing personality. He was a great neighbor and a faithful friend of my parents. I will always remember and appreciate his volunteer efforts with the Troop 456 and youth football. Sincere condolences to the Heath family.
