Glen Dehn Obituary

Glen R. Dehn, 87, passed away on May 19, 2025, at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven, Michigan.

Born on December 12, 1937, in Allegan, Michigan, to Lester and Kathryn (Bickler) Dehn, Glen grew up in Kalamazoo where he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1955 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University in 1959. While at WMU, he was active in the university band and in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity. He went on to a 31-year career with the United States Social Security Administration. For most of those years he held a responsible position in legislative planning, which included working with U.S. Congressional committee staff.

Glen lived in the Bolton Hill neighborhood of Baltimore for many decades and was an active member of First English Lutheran Church. He shared his home with his long-time partner Charles B. Blackburn. Together they enjoyed the arts, international travel, and entertaining friends and family. Glen and Charles were among nine couples who filed a lawsuit in Baltimore Circuit Court in 2004 to expand marital rights to same-sex partners. After the Maryland General Assembly passed a same-sex marriage law, which was approved by voters in a 2012 referendum, the couple were married on Feb. 17, 2013

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse Charles and his nephew Eric Dehn. He is survived by his brother Roger (Barbara) Dehn of South Haven, sister Janet Dehn of Bangor, Mi., niece Judy (Rich) Chapman of South Haven, nephews Jeff (Linda) Dehn of Allegan and Karl (Jennifer) Dehn of Battle Creek, and stepdaughter Marcia Blackburn of Binghamton, New York, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for the fall at First English Lutheran Church in Baltimore.

Memorial contributions can be made in Glen's honor to First English Church, ACLU, or a charity of your choice.

Glen was a KCSH 1955 classmate and was, along with Bob Acuna and me, the only boys who survived/tolerated two years of Miss Helen Grable's Spanish class.
