Henry Rutledge Obituary

Henry Rutledge, 81, died at home on Friday, February 14, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born in Hagerstown, MD his parents were the late Judge Irvine Hart Rutledge and Eleanor White Rutledge with sibling Eleanor Rutledge of Carrboro, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Louisa Shay Rutledge and sons Donald Middleton Rutledge and Macon Kieffer Rutledge and his wife Jaime. His two sons were always a top priority to him. His faith carried him through his recent decline with dignity and serenity.

Henry grew up in Hagerstown, MD.. He graduated from St. James School, Princeton University, and the University of Maryland Law School. His church and community always benefited from his commitment to volunteerism. He enjoyed golf and hunting on his beloved Hampton, his family estate, with his sons.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday February 26, 2025 at 11am at Asbury United Methodist Church on Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Henry's memory may be sent to: Friends of Hampton, Hampton Plantation, 1950 Rutledge Road, McClellanville, SC 29458.
