Herbert Stonesifer

Herbert Lee "Herb" Stonesifer, 93, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in Sykesville, Maryland, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on April 6, 1931, in Ellicott City, Maryland, Herb lived a life dedicated to his family, community, and faith. He met Mary, his beloved wife of 69 years, while working in Ellicott City. Together, they built a home in Glenwood, where they raised their family. Herb cherished his time with Mary, their children-Gary and his wife Teresa, Becky and her husband-and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Herb's career was marked by service and dedication. He began as a deputy sheriff in Howard County before being elected sheriff, demonstrating his steadfast commitment to public safety. He also worked as a newspaper pressman and co-owned a bakery shop with Mary. Additionally, he served in the Maryland National Guard.

Beyond his professional life, Herb was deeply involved in his community. A past president of the Glenwood Lions Club, he enjoyed giving back through service. He found joy in camping, gardening, and solving puzzles but especially loved decorating for the holidays-Christmas and his Department 56 villages were particular favorites. Any spare time was spent tackling projects around the house.

Herb's kindness extended beyond his own family; he was a foster parent to several children over the years, providing them with warmth and stability. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mount Airy.

Herb's legacy is one of generosity, service, and love. May his memory bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
