Hugo Louis Kuntz, of
Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, in Delray Beach, Florida at the age of 96. Hugo was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years Elaine J. Kuntz, (nee Raboy); and his beloved parents, Henry and Elizabeth Kuntz.
He is survived by his sister Miriam Lowenberg Black and his brother Benjamin (Marlene) Kuntz; his daughter Nancy (Andrew) Siegel, and his son James (Amy) Kuntz; his grandchildren Michele (James) Leclerc, Jason (Katie) Simon, Elizabeth Kuntz, Alexandra Kuntz, Elizabeth (Peter) Meny, Alexander (Ariel) Siegel, Robert (China) Siegel; and his adored great grandchildren Hailey, Natalie, Hunter, Holland, Charley, and Eliana.
Hugo was born in Baltimore on January 27, 1927, graduated from Forest Park High School, served honorably in the U.S. Navy, and later graduated from the University of Maryland. He met Elaine in 1947 and they were married in 1950. Hugo and the family enjoyed many years at their home in Delray Beach, Florida.
He was a lifelong member of Beth El Congregation, the synagogue that his parents were instrumental in establishing in 1948. His love for attending services and enjoyment from reading and chanting in Hebrew, were a result of his religious upbringing. When attending services in person was not possible he enjoyed watching televised shabbat services.
His father established American Office Company in 1929 and after joining the family business, Hugo, as president for many years, and together with his brother Ben, proudly grew the family's business into a nationally recognized office furniture dealership.
Hugo was a generous supporter of philanthropic organizations, both Jewish and non-secular. He and Elaine visited Israel many times, aiding in the establishment of an addiction support program and a school. He was a student of art, literature, music, design; a devoted world traveler, often with his children, and a credit to his heritage and family. His family was without question the most important part of his life and the source of his greatest joy.
He will be remembered as a leader who was even-tempered, uniformly polite, respectful, compassionate, and unconditionally kind. Hugo will be deeply missed by his family and friends, for his congeniality such as his warm smile, his friendliness, his pleasant demeanor, and his genuine interest in others.
The service and entombment will be held at the Beth El Mausoleum at Temple Beth El of Boca Raton, at 333 SW Fourth Avenue, Boca Raton, FL 33432 on Tuesday, January 23 at 10:00 AM.
