Jacqueline Wight Obituary

Jacqueline "Jacq" McClung Wight, 80, of Cockeysville, Maryland, passed peacefully on February 15, 2017. Born in Richmond, Virginia, to John Stuart McClung and Hazel Rolfe McClung, Jacq spent her childhood at Shrubbery Hill in Hanover County, Virginia, and Spring Valley Farm in Poolesville, Maryland. She attended Visitation Academy in Frederick, Maryland, and Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jacq worked as an Assistant Buyer for Bloomingdale's in New York City before her marriage to Peter Wight in 1958. Later, she was a Sales Associate for Doncaster. She was a Worthington Valley resident since 1961, living at Tall Oak on Cuba Road. "General Jacq" was well-known for her decisive evaluation of one's decorating or clothing choices, and even better known for her ability to identify appropriate--and always pleasing--fixes. She also applied her creative flare to needlepointing and knitting, adding trendsetting styles to the belts and sweaters of her children and grandchildren. In addition to her artistic interests, Jacq enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, skiing, riding through the countryside, and walking in the woods with her dogs. She was also a wonderful Pony Club mother and grandmother, and a great advocate for land conservation and the preservation of Shawan Downs. Jacq is survived by her husband of 59 years, Peter; her sons, Peter Jr (wife, Cacky) of Sparks, Maryland, and John (wife, Paula) of Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania; and her daughter, Katherine Weeden (husband, Matt) of Marshall, Virginia. Contributions in Jacq's memory may be made to The Valleys Planning Council or the Land Preservation Trust. A private interment will take place in Frederick, Maryland. A celebration of Jacq's life is planned for the spring at her beloved Tall Oak.
