James DeCapite Obituary

James Robert DeCapite, 73, of Bel Air, Maryland. Jim passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Romeo and Eleanor DeCapite, Jim attended St. Edward High School where he achieved ten varsity letters in track, cross country and bowling. He met the love of his life, Marcie Lamb, at the University of Dayton where they both attended college. Jim and Marcie moved to Maryland after spending the first few years of their marriage in Cleveland, Ohio, and Jim eventually opened his own accounting firm, James R. DeCapite, in 1989 in Bel Air, which later became DeCapite & DeCapite, PA when his youngest son, Pete, joined the business.

Known as "Dad," "Grandpa," "Jimmy D," and "Deacon Jim," he loved spending time with his wife, Marcie, children and grandchildren and going on annual family vacations to Surf City, North Carolina, where he also got to enjoy time with his sister, Joan, and his brother, Joe, and their families. As a father, Jim found great joy coaching his children in soccer, basketball and baseball. Jim looked forward to attending the Carroll Valley Golf Tournament every year (proud 2009 Champion), an annual tradition, with many of his family and friends.

A devout Catholic and member of St. Margaret Church, Jim's true passion was being a deacon. He felt very happy and fulfilled giving homilies at St. Margaret Church, baptizing children and witnessing marriages, among his many other duties as an ordained deacon.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Jim found inspiration in St. Padre Pio and living with his motto of "Pray, hope and don't worry. " Jim found peace incorporating Padre Pio into his homilies during his battle with cancer.

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Marcie, and their children Matt (Tara), Tim (Megan), Pete (Kristin), and Carrie (Mike) and their eleven grandchildren Grace, Riley, Luke, Braden, A.J., Ava, Seth, Madie, Lily, Saige and Jameson. Jim is also survived by his sister, Joan Horvath (Mike) and his brother, Joe (Melissa) and many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.

Jim's memory and influence will be cherished by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 1-3 pm and 6-9 pm at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway, Bel Air. A funeral mass celebrating Jim's life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00 pm at St. Margaret Church, 141 N. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air.

Interment will be at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air.

What an honor to know Jim and his family. He certainly earned his halo while living here on Earth. Gary and I came to know he and Marcie well as they went through the years of formation for the Deaconate. The Lord is certainly embracing him with welcome arms and 'Job well done my son!' To Marcie and family, may comfort and peace be with you in these difficult days. Dcn. Gary and Ellen Dumer, Bel Air, MD.
