Joan Jira Obituary

Joan F. Jira, aged 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 4, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on May 26, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, Joan was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, dedication, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.

Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Rosensteel and Anastasia (Tighe) Rosensteel. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis C. Jira, her sister, Jeannette Rosensteel, and her brother, Dr. Robert J. Rosensteel. Her legacy continues through her devoted son, L. Joseph Jira of Lutherville, MD, and her loving daughters, Patricia (Charlie) Hafner of Cookeville, TN, Diane (Rick) Mastrangelo of York, PA, and Jeanne (John) Lenham of Germanton, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Shoul of Hampstead, MD, who, along with Joan's children, grandchildren, and extended family, will hold her memory close to their hearts.

A true homebody at heart, Joan found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cultivated a home that was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, filled with the laughter of family and the aroma of home-cooked meals. Her interests were rooted in the love for her family and the contentment found in the familiar comforts of her home.

As we bid farewell to Joan Francis Jira, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will live on through the stories told and the love shared, now and forever.

A service will be held at a later date in Maryland along with burial of ashes at The Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4430 Belair Road, Baltimore, MD 21206

Joan was always kind to me. I remember the best Thanksgivings at her house with all the Rosensteel siblings and their offsprings.
For a few years it was all about poor slightly senile Mrs Jira (Joan´s MIL) who prided herself on providing the turkey. Joan found out it had been stuffed and left on her washing machine for several days before it made her oven. Joan would deftly switch the old turkey for Joan´s freshly roasted one with a wink and a smile. I don´t think Mrs Jira ever caught on. Bless you Joan. Happy memories for me.
