John Beers Obituary

John Carlin Beers, beloved husband and father, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 74. He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Rosemary (nee Flanigan), daughters Christy Carey and Jenny Cathrow (Andrew), step-sons Ross Wilkinson, Bill Wilkinson (Rochelle), Dan Wilkinson (Sara Loran); grandchildren Paige Carey, Harry and Alison Cathrow, Kyle Digiorgio, Jack, Nate and Landon Wilkinson and Fin Boyce; brother William Beers (J.J.), sister Dolly Loeb (Ross). John is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Lombardo and his son-in-law, Nelson Carey. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.

A native and lifelong resident of Baltimore, John grew up in Roland Park and attended Mt. Washington Country School for Boys Military Grade. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1964. John attended Notre Dame University and University of Maryland School of Law. He began his law career at Fedder & Garten in the Real Estate practice. He then established an independent private practice with a focus on commercial real estate transactions, property management and business law. He owned and managed several real estate properties in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties, including Maiden Choice Apartments.

Giving back was central to John's way of life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a faithful eucharistic minister and greeter at Church of the Nativity and regularly donated platelets. He chose to donate his body for Alzheimer's research. John (or "Skippy" as he was lovingly called by his grandchildren) enjoyed bowling, trivia and politics. The depth and breadth of his knowledge earned him a spot as a contestant on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" in 2001.

John would say that his crowning achievement is his family; however, others might say that his talents for completing crossword puzzles in pen and crafting puns set him apart. A master wordsmith, John loved a spirited debate. He was deeply dedicated to his family and delighted in spending time with them.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 11:00 am at Church of the Nativity, 20 E. Ridgley Road, Timonium 21093.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.act.alz.org or Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org
