John Philip DeRan

1943 - 2024

John Philip DeRan, of Delta, PA, died Monday, March 11 after a brief illness. He was 80 years old.

John was born March 24, 1943, the fourth of five children of the late James J. DeRan, Jr. and the late Helen Harry DeRan. He was predeceased by his brothers, James J. DeRan III and Charles Harry DeRan.

John was a 1961 graduate of North Harford High School. He attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1969 as a microbarographer. He was stationed in Greenland and Fiji. John was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1969-71.

John moved to Australia in 1971 where he married and started a family. He lived in Wembley Downs, Western Australia, until 2007, when he returned to the U.S., settling in Delta, PA until his death.

John enjoyed watching the Orioles, the Ravens, and the West Coast Eagles (Australian rules football). He loved early rock and roll, classic country and other music. He was a member of the American Legion, Slate Ridge Post 182.

John is survived by a brother, David H. DeRan of Delta, PA; a sister, Sara DeRan Grace of Castleton, Vermont; a daughter, Jonine DeRan McAuliffe of Mandurah, Western Australia; a son, James Christian DeRan, of Secret Harbour, Western Australia; and five grandchildren, Maya, Kade, Sonny, Noah and Layla.

A memorial event will be held to celebrate the life of John DeRan at the American Legion Post 182 in Whiteford, MD on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
