Saddened to hear this news. I was shocked, he had been on my mind last week. I remember saying we (the shop) were like Voltron, and he was the head... I learned much from him, in and out of the shop. He was a big man with a big heart! He will not be forgotten. I am lucky enough to chance upon meeting him. I miss you all

It has been several years since I last saw John, but I hold dear many fond memories of times spent in Baltimore when we were friends. It saddens me that I will never again hear his laugh, enjoy his quirky sense of humor. He freely shared his love of life with his friends, his passion for all things beautiful with the world. John was a wonderful person and will be deeply missed.

My deepest condolences to Roya and all in the family. His heart, his life, his art were huge and creative and full of passion. I was brought to my knees with this news, so shocking. My sympathies and deepest condolensces go out to Roya and John's family, all of the people at the studio, and the many, many people who make up the circles of John's friends.
Although I did not know John as well as many of his close friends- we knew each other socially and I, of course, knew of his work, I will still miss him. Always warm, friendly and engaged, he leaves behind a legacy of wonderful metalworks, memories of throwdown Christmas parties at the studio, and most of all- people who love him dearly and who will continue to keep his memory and presence alive.
Roya, Gutierrez family, and dear and close friends, may you find comfort in this very difficult time.
Deepest sympathies,

It is the highest honor to be able to say John was my friend. There is no way that such an enormous heart cannot leave an equally enormous space behind. But one of John's gifts was an understanding of space...and I believe he remains with us...My deepest condolences to Roya and to his family.
