When I saw this email message pop up today, a reminder and tribute to Red's life here on earth, it brought a smile to my face in remembering a good friend and colleague at the Baltimore Evening Sun so many years ago when I was starting out in my sports career in the early 1970s. Red was fun to be around, a mentor, and someone who taught me some important lessons during a down time in my career. Just a good man, and he is missed. I hope this message reinforces with family members what a good man he was, and how he left his mark and is missed. Thanks for sharing him with the staff at the Evening Sun.

My sincere condolances to all of the Sears family, especially Loretta. I knew John when he was just getting a hold on life. He surely did well for a Hungry Hill graduate.

Now that Dad has moved on to heaven, I just want everyone to know that Dad told me I was his favorite daughter. He often clumped me in with the boys, but he made sure to let me know I was his favorite duaghter plenty of times.

To the Sears family:
I worked with Red for 10 years at the Evening Sun sports department during the 1970s and have many fond memories of him. He was always a friend, and a passionate person to his colleagues. And he could have a good time on occasion too--I still remember some of his fishing stories and trips that we took, or the constant "new" diet that he had uncovered. Although he occasionally cut some of my best endings on a few features (laughing), he was just a good person to be around, a friend, and a very astute news person. I will miss you Red, and thanks for your friendship. May you rest in peace. Say hello to Dugout Brown and Jimmy Jackson, and don't forget to honor Walter Taylor!
