STASIAK , John L. John Leon
Stasiak , Chairman of M. Nelson Barnes & Sons, Inc., a Baltimore based mechanical contracting company, died on March 14,2008 of natural causes at his Ocean City home. He was 62. Born in Baltimore and raised on Greenhill Avenue, John graduated from Baltimore Poly Technical Institute. He began his career as a mechanical estimator/project manager with M. Nelson Barnes & Sons, Inc. in 1963. He became Executive Vice President in 1976 and in 1979 was the first stockholder from outside the Barnes family. In 1983 John advanced,to President and became owner four years later. Mr. Stasiak devoted 45 years of his life to the success of the company and to ensure his company's continuation, converted it to a 100% employee owned business in 2005. The success of the employees, whom he considered his family, and the reputation of the company, were his life's motivation. John was a very generous man and in 2000 established the John L. Stasiak Private Foundation which supported many organizations in Baltimore and Ocean City. As the memory of John will always be with us, his Foundation will continue his mission to share with the community, as he did in life. John, with energy and charisma, touched many lives with his challenges and support. He can be quoted as saying his life was the result of "opportunity, hard work and good luck". John had professional membership in the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. and supported the endeavors of the Engineering Society of Baltimore. Affiliations included the Associated Builders and Contractors of Baltimore, Building Congress & Exchange of Metropolitan Baltimore, Je Mein Fous, and Ocean City Ravens Roost #44.
A funeral service was held in Baltimore at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home on March 20th with many family and friends attending. The U.S. Army provided an Honor Guard with flag presentation to his beloved mother, Doris Ida Stasiak (nee Lambdin), for his Vietnam Era 29th Special Forces Duty. Sr. Mary Ellen McGlynn and Sr. Amalia Marie, admired friends from The Sisters of Holy Cross, conducte,d the service. John's sixty plus co-workers from M. Nelson Barnes & Sons, Inc. joined an entrance procession to honor their long-time "Boss". Fond memories were shared among those attending. To further celebrate John's life, an Ocean City Memorial will be held on his birthday, May 28th at 9:30 A.M. on the beach at 141st Street. ... We only knew John, a little, as we would run into him when walking our dogs on Wight St., he always was
friendly and seemed like a nice guy.
We were shocked and sadden by the news of his death.
