Joseph Stadler Obituary

On an unusually brisk December 6th in Charleston, South Carolina, Joseph Stadler passed away at the age of 73, surrounded by family. Sartorially and personally, everyone knew him as a man of many hats. Rarely could one spot him out and about without one of his trademark souvenir ball caps, flat caps, or golf visors perched just above his clip-on shades. Personally, though, his interests traversed the gamut from artistic endeavors to athletic pursuits to automotive trivia. He translated his artistic endeavors into face-painting, Halloween costumes, and handmade crafts. He even parlayed these skills into a career of drafting at Johns Hopkins and engineering at Henry Adams. At the same time, he delved into ballroom dancing and spent decades on bowling leagues, twice reaching the pinnacle of a 300 game. While he possessed an almost encyclopedic knowledge of domestic cars, most people will probably remember him more for his quirky sense of humor, heavily influenced by Rodney Dangerfield and The Three Stooges. Nothing, however, eclipsed his passion for his family, particularly his wife and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stadler, his brother, Robbie, his stepchildren Aimee Farrell and John Therres, and his grandchildren: Emma, John, and Adam. A memorial will be held for him at 11 am on January 11th, 2025 at Bethesda United Methodist Church (6300 Harford Rd).
