I worked with Judith licensing childcare centers in the late 1980´s. She was so very kind to me. She was a mentor and a role model. I respected her and admired her. I am richer for having known her professionally. My sincere sympathies because I know she is missed. Seeing all her grandchildren listed here, I recall her saying "I love children in mixed age groups!" I am glad she had that in her family.

Judy was a dear friend and a person I greatly admired and loved. Her philosophy for Early Childhood Education was unique and creative, and had a profound positive influence on so many, including myself. There are many happy memories of swimming at her house, parties, family gatherings and good conversation. I will cherish her friendship forever . There could never be another Judy Bender! I will miss you, dear Judy, but never forget you.

Judy was an integral part of my life in Severna Park. She helped me find me first real teaching job and gave me the support I needed working in an environment that hadn't yet accepted her ideas about early childhood. Judy and my mother Joan were my mentors in the area of early childhood education. That was probably Judy's greatest gift to me. I had no idea she'd gone to the Maryland Institute - I remember Mel giving me a ride home sometimes when I went there and had transportation. They both gave warmth, encouragement, wisdom, humor, color, and wonderful smiles to my family and to the whole community. Thank you to the family for sharing her.

I have wonderful memories of crabbing and swimming off the deck at her house. Her home was filled with interesting treasures. When I had children, we would see her at the Children’s Museum in Annapolis. She was a wonderful lady and I was blessed to know her. Tammy (Montor) Ramos
