Mom has always represented how people should behave toward others. She was the kindest and most caring person I have ever met. I believe this is so because she saw only the good in people. She treated all people with the assumption that they are honest and good even when anyone else would not make that supposition.
Even when she was in pain, she thought about others. She was so worried that she would take advantage of them even though what she asked was really very minimal. And when we did something for her, she made us feel that it was greatest thing in the world.
I can remember her singing in the morning to me as a child because she wanted me to smile and not be grumpy. It never worked because I am just a grumpy person in the morning but she did not give up on me.
We all knew she wanted a nice house when we lived in Dundalk. She even had one picked out, it was brick and on a quiet street. But that was when I was sixteen and had great problems with my life. I was so unhappy and miserable. I quit school and probable would have ended up working my whole life at the Point. But she would not give up on me. I now realize what a sacrifice she made to send me to Massanutten, Stan to Boys Latin and Anthony to Poly. I do think it was the best things that ever happen to me.
I think she did see that the people in Dundalk were so caught up in the life at Bethlehem Steel that it colored their expectations and attitudes. They were hard working and had simple pleasures but they could not conceive of life beyond the rough and course world of a factory floor. I couldn´t either. However, she could and was determined that I, and my brothers, would discover it. I meet boys at Massanutten who saw themselves as leaders and professionals. It was not a question of if college were an option in life, but rather what college they would attend. My sisters really didn´t need help to realize their best potential because they were always self motivated and good students.
It took me a long time, but I did find myself. It was your faith in me, Dad´s quiet, strong model and Joanna´s love that gave me the perfect life. I could not ask for more and I will be forever grateful.

Maria, Angela & Family, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a very nice lady. Her and my Mom, Vangie Demetrakis, spent time together at Brightview. Our Mom passed on the 8th of this month too. May her memory be eternal.
