Laurette Marie Coffey

Laurette Marie Coffey (nee Fallon), the daughter of Loretta and Dr. John A. Fallon passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2nd. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 6, 1937. She is predeceased by her loving husband John Joseph Coffey, her devoted brother John Hatton Fallon and her older brother who died at birth. She is survived by her 3 children, John (Jennifer), Stephen (Katie) and Laurette (Patrick O'Malley) as well as her 8 loving grandchildren, John, Patrick, William, Charlie, Mary, Thomas, Brigid and James. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Fallon and by many beloved nieces and nephews in the Coffey and Fallon families. Growing up, she was a champion sailor winning races in the Cape Cod and Narrasketuck classes across south shore of Long Island. She spent her summers sailing, cruising on the family boat, the LaurJean, raising chickens and having fun at the family's summer house in Bellport, NY. Laurette grew up in Brooklyn on Hancock St., attended St. Martin of Tours Parish, St. Angela Hall where she played forward on the basketball team, and Manhattanville College where she studied Biology. When she graduated from college, she worked for Glenbrook Laboratories as an executive secretary before marrying John, whom she met at a family wedding. Later in life, she also worked at Monsignor McClancy High School, The Garden School and St. Mary's High School in Queens running their food services. Laurette's greatest vocation was supporting her husband and raising her 3 children. She actively supported St. Kevin parish school and the Flushing YMCA and drove her children throughout the day between swim practices and swim meets across Queens and Long Island. As her husband John passed away when their children were still in their teen and pre-teen years, Laurette boldly raised them by herself through a strong example of the importance of family and mostly a deep faith in a loving God. She loved to listen as she did with many friends, and when responding she had a wickedly dry sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and grandmother, and a friend to many. Laurette lived a wonderful life, and she will be greatly missed. The Rite of Christian Burial will take place as a private ceremony at St. Martin of Tours in Brooklyn on October 10. In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Charities are suggested.
