Leonard Cannon Obituary

Leonard Elliott "Sonny" Cannon, 79, of Augusta, WV, formerly of Baltimore, MD, died on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

Sonny was born in Baltimore, MD, on October 14, 1944, the son of the late Leonard E. and Frances Buckingham Cannon. Sonny was a country music fan especially George Jones, he would sit out on his deck with his husky Harley and enjoy the mountain views. He has always enjoyed mountains anywhere he would go especially the Smokey Mountains. He loved taking his kids every summer to Ocean City, MD, and enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles, Ravens, and WVU football. Sonny worked for multiple printing companies and eventually met the love of his life working for one of them.

Sonny married Cathy Borkman on June 28, 2003 in Baltimore, MD.

Surviving with his wife of 20 years are two sons: Richard Cannon (Tammy) of Maryland & Mark Cannon (Yeri) of North Carolina; a daughter: Laura Cannon (James) of Pennsylvania; a brother Rick; four sisters: Penny, Sharon, Darlene & Beverly; and numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a brother: Wilson "Junior"; and two sisters: Pat & Sandra.

A celebration of Sonny's life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sonny to a local animal shelter of your choice or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Arrangements are by Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory, Capon Bridge, WV.
