Dick and I became friends when we were children in the Bronx and have been in contact or part of each other's lives for nearly 60 years. Although I knew he was ill, the news of his death is devastating. My children (his honorary niece and nephew, Elizabeth (Nancy pants) and John and my husband Peter send our condolances. We miss him deeply.
With love and sadness,

Pat (Elson) Albin

I first met Richard in 1970 when he was just 34. Richard was a gifted human being. It was not "Art" that he was interested in, but language. To understand his work you must understand his deep conviction of the literal meaning of photography, "to write with light". When I was a very young man of 22, Richard was not only my teacher, my friend, my mentor, but took this young man from the small town of Kokomo on an adventure of knowledge that will stay with me all the days of my life. My dearest friend for 36 years, I will surely miss him, and will never forget how profoundly he changed my life. Thank you Richard, and I'm so happy that you're finally with Barbara once again.
