Mario Silvestri Obituary



Mario Anthony Silvestri, 87, of Baltimore, Maryland died on May 6, 2015. He was born on June 14, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland. Mario was the son of the late Pietro Silvestri and his wife Theresa. He is survived by his sister, Clara Michalak, daughter Donna Davis and husband Sean, son Mark Silvestri and his wife Neysa, and grandchildren Captain Christina Monmonier (United States Army), Connor Silvestri, Callie Silvestri, and Arianna Silvestri. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings Amelia, Madeline, Mary, and Dominic. He was also preceded by a wife Lola Silvestri and is survived by a wife Gina Silvestri. Mario grew up in Highlandtown and at seventeen years of age enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in 1944. He was a proud veteran of World War II. Upon discharge, Mario went to work for the old State Roads Commission of Maryland. He began his career as part of a survey crew and rose through the ranks to become the Assistant Bureau Chief of the Right Away Division. During the 1950's and 1960's, Mario represented the state as an appraiser on just about every major road project in the state of Maryland. He was even put on loan by the State to the Federal government when I-95 was being built through Maryland. Upon retirement from the state in 1978, Mario enjoyed working at various part-time jobs including managing a restaurant in Miami, Florida, becoming a professional limousine driver in Baltimore, and working for the Bel Air Auto Auction Company. For many years, Mario was active in the ARNAMAR Social Club which was comprised of World War II veterans from the Army, Navy, and Marine Corp. In addition, Mario was active in the American Legion and the Sons of Italy. Visitation will be at the family owned CANDLE LIGHT FUNERAL HOME by Craig Witzke 1835 Frederick Rd. Catonsville, on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 10:00-12:00. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment is private. Dear Donns, Shane & Christina: I only just heard of this tragic loss of Mario. I was blessed to have spoken with him only weeks before and we planned on getting together in Florida this winter.
