Matthew Hersl Obituary
Suddenly on April 9, 2013 Matthew S. "Matt" Hersl. Beloved son of Dorothy J. Hersl and the late Jerome L. Hersl, Sr. and loving brother of Jerome L. Hersl, Jr. and wife Barbara, Charles A. Hersl and wife Robin, Jane F. Shott and husband Chuck, Stephen P. Hersl and wife Noelle, Daniel T. "Danny" Hersl; dear uncle of Jerome Hersl III, Edward Hersl, Dana Hersl, Charles Shott, Holly Shott, Natalie Shott, Madison Hersl, Colin Hersl, Tiffany Simmons, Kelsey Mann and Elisabeth Mann. Also survived by many loving neighbors, coworkers, and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at the family owned Joseph N. Zannino Jr. Funeral Home, 263 S. Conkling St. (at Gough) on Thursday from 2-9 PM. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9-10 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 A M at St. Leo the Great Church (South Exeter and Stiles St.), Little Italy. Interment Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Just a shout out to Matt Hersl. I'm just an O's fan that spoke with him in the outfield seats during batting pracice on Opending Day 2013 vs. Twins and am very sad to hear of his death. Condolences to his family and friends. God bless you Matt!

I still can't believe Matt is gone, the world is a lot less brighter without him in it. My sincerest condolences to his Mother, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews. I know how shocked I am over his death, I can't imagine how you all must feel. Mrs. Hersl, your son touched the lives of many due to his kindness for others, and giving spirit. I hope you find comfort in knowing that he truly DID leave a positive mark on this world, I am a better person for having known him.

I remember when Matt caught Josh Bell's first home run ball, and came close to the second. Gave it to the player and wanted nothing in return. Just the kind of man he was. You will be missed.

Met Matt originally at OPACY but also saw him numerous times at events in and around Little Italy. He loved his family, friends, and community and the Baltimore Orioles. Was a great community activist and a model citizen.

I went to Our Lady of Pompei school and Charles was in my class. I knew of his brother Jerome but not Matthew. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost a niece the very same day 10yrs ago in a car accident. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Hersl family. Matt will live in your hearts & minds forever.

Matt, Your sudden death comes as a TOTAL shock to many of us. I, for one, heard it on the news but it didn't sink in that it was you until I read it on Facebook from several of our friends (Marci Manzo, Roxanne Manzo & my step-brother, Adam Smith)

Matt, I have known you since you were four years old. I remember signing you and Rana up for the Tiny Tots bowling league at Greenway Bowling. I became your first sister-in-law and I will always remember how you and my sons Jerry and Eddie (your newphews) played together, when you were kids. I watched you grow up into a wonderful-caring man. Even though life's circumstances changed the family dynamics, you remained close to my kids and you always called on me to help you through the home-buying and refinancing process. Thank you for caring about us. Although we didn't see each other often, I always cared about you. RIP Matt. You made life better for a ton of people. I know one day, I'll see you again in the vast ballpark in the sky, where the gates always open at EXACTLY 5 PM, you never need to have your ticket scanned, and every battin' practice swing is a home run. I'm sure you'll try to tell me that you're gonna "take it easy" but we all know that's not true. Can't wait to see you outrun everybody to get to left field with that huge smile on your face.
