A sister is more than just a sister; she is a confidante, an advisor and a best friend. I remember how loving Max was to me when I was just a teenager and through my entire life. I can only express my most heartfelt condolences for her loss to our family. Nothing can ever replace a woman as special and loved as Max was. I count her as a friend as well as the best sister-in-law I ever had. Max was a great influence on my life she helped mold me into the person I am today. I have so many wonderful memories of her and I have been able to share them with her. We shared so many strolls down memory lane. After I graduated from high school I came for a short visit with her in Waukegan, Illinois soon after Tommy was born. That short stay turned into many wonderful months. I got my first job while visiting with her, got to be with my incredible nephews every day and learned so many life lessons. Max asked me to help with expensive while I was living with them. I happily turned over my entire check. Max knew I needed money and she always saw to it that I had some. Those were the best days, Max taught me how to manage on a budget and be happy. I walked to work every day, as Woolworth was not far away from where they live. We had so much fun playing in the snow, taking the boys for walks and just girl talking. When it was time for me to return home she surprised me with money. She had put some of my earning in a bank account and gave it back to me. What a loving and generous soul, that was my Max. My mother was always her champion as well. Max had a unique way of letter communication it was as if you were standing beside her the entire time. My mom kept all of her letters to read over and over. I loved her very much and I know her soul is resting in peace.

I first met Max via a mutual interest in our mini-schnauzers. Mine is Treasure, and hers was Teddy Bear. She had just recently lost him, but we bonded nevertheless. She became Treasure's "Auntie Max." We would enjoy feeding the squirrels near her place, and seeing Treasure eye them through her patio door like a cat and a goldfish.
To many, her artistic talents, genuine hospitality, inventive cooking (especially pie baking) made her very well known and sought after in our community. She was also a first class server to her family and friends.Even as her health failed and made life more difficult, she always made sure that her guests came first.
As a younger woman, she rode horses, golfed and played tennis. In her later life, she was an avid fan and statistician. At Charlestown, she was known for the many drawings and painting of horses for which she was nicknamed the "horse lady."
I also enjoyed getting my hair cut and styled from Max. After all, she grew her talents on her boys, and eventually other neighbors here. I think of her every morning while brushing my hair.
Max also enjoyed writing, and was a member of the Charlestown writers group. She captured many of her life experiences (to include enemies and friends) and shared them with me.
In the few years that we were knew each other, she will always remain the dearest and closest friend I will ever have. Treasure misses his Auntie Max too. She continues as a star in our lives this day and for what ever days remain for us.

I was very happy that in the past few years I was able to express my sincere gratitude and love to my mom. Having raised 4 sons,
she dissevered better from me during my teenage years.
