Mike Sonson: A Lasting Tribute
Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you for the opportunity to speak today on behalf of a man that I think knew what the word, ‘commitment’ meant from just being around him and knowing one simple fact about him.
Before I proceed with this testimonial of him, I would like to say that I feel like I am at a family reunion and I am reunited with some individuals that I worked around and with for a period of two years at Corvis Corporation. I know that I missed the faces that I see here, but I’m sure that all of us will miss Michael Sonson more than any of us will miss seeing each other.
Even though there is an absence, the memories of each other cannot and will not separate us. (At this point, I am also reminded of Romans Chapter 8, verses 38 and 39.) Such is the case with all the memories that we all have of Mr. Sonson. I cannot speak for each one of you because each and every one of you has your own unique memories of the man that was, if I’m not mistaken, the facilities coordinator and in charge of maintenance operations at Corvis.
I will, however, speak on why I say that Michael Sonson knew what the meaning of commitment was for him and is for us. I understand that Michael and his family are residents of Emmitsburg, Maryland. If I remember what Mike said, the trip to work everyday for him was 75 miles. That happens to be 150 miles roundtrip a day and 750 miles a week and that is not counting weekends. It put at least 36,000 miles on his vehicle a year. Ladies and gentlemen, I do not know about you, but if I had to travel that type of distance to my employment, I would tend to get tired of it fast, but that was not the case for Mike Sonson. It was because he was committed to the task and what it took day in and day out to fulfill the task. He knew what it took to fulfill his commitment to his employer or master, according to the flesh.
He therefore knew the meaning of the word, ‘commitment’.
For those of you that are left behind, family, friends, colleagues or those that worked around him at Corvis, you need not feel sad, although I’m sure all of us will grieve the loss of him. If I may assure and read to you from the book of I Thessalonians, Chapter 4, verses 13 through 17, it is written:
(Read the scripture)
Also from I Corinthians, Chapter 15, verses 51 through 58, it is written:
(Read the scripture)
In closing, from I Thessalonians, Chapter 4, verse 18, it is written:
(Read the scripture)

Mike, you were a kind and generous man. I have a fond memory of your offering me a taste of your homemade "alfredo" sauce -- and it was delicious. You will stay in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
