Nathan Davis Obituary



Dr. Nathan Miller Davis, a retired Baltimore psychoanalyst, died on June 5. He was born December 6, 1931 in New Rochelle, New York to Aaron Wise Davis and Helen Therese (Miller) Davis. His paternal grandparents were Edward Davis, a textile manufacturer, and Wilma (Wise) Davis, daughter of Rabbi Aaron Wise and sister of Rabbi Stephen Wise. His maternal grandparents were Nathan J. Miller, a stockbroker, and Linda (Rosenburg) Miller, a philanthropist and patron of artists including the modernist Max Weber. Dr. Davis graduated from Horace Mann School in New York and from the University of Chicago, where he received his A.B. and M.D. degrees. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1962-1964. For nearly 40 years he worked as a psychoanalyst in private practice in Baltimore, where he trained several generations of analysts and served as President of Baltimore-Washington Society for Psychoanalysis in 1991-1992. Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Leslie Posner; sons Benjamin of Rockville, Maryland and Adam (Sara Pearson) of San Rafael, California; grandchildren Karla Parker (Leslie), Maria Vogel (Philip), Eleanor Davis and Olivia Davis; four great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters Ellen Goldwater, Natalie Spingarn, and Wendy Glass; wives Ann (Bernstein) and Anneke (Saunders); and his friend of many years, Leon Levin. Dr. Davis also had many canine companions over the years including his beloved Shaggy. Contributions in his honor may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Baltimore SPCA, or Bat Conservation International. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

I met Nathan one winter
the biggest snow storm
in the late 70´s. We were
good friends till I moved to New York. God bless his soul he was a nice man
