Pedro Garcia

1936 - 2018

Pedro Garcia, MD passed away peacefully at his residence in Towson, MD on September 3rd. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years to Sonia Garcia, his children, Pedro Garcia, Elisabeth Wade and Sonia Garcia, his grandchildren, Alan Webb, Nicole Sullivan, Peter Garcia, Ryan and Isabella Wade. Dr. Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba on December 2, 1936 and immigrated to the United States in 1961. As a young physician he completed his internship in Toledo, OH in emergency medicine. After completing his residency in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at John Hopkins Medical Center he remained on staff for several years. He was recruited to GBMC in 1970 and became chairman of the Department in 1985. Dr. Garcia was proud to have built one of the largest private practice groups in the metropolitan area and focused on acquiring highly specialized clinicians. His goal was to offer patients at GBMC the best quality care in the community. He had a longstanding passion for medicine and mentored many of the physicians in his practice. He retired in December 2000. Away from the hospital he enjoyed, skiing, boating, biking, tennis, running and was very focused on health and wellness. His cultural and educational pursuits lead to his support of various organizations dedicated to the development of the fine arts. Dr. Garcia believed in living life to the fullest and was never reluctant to explore new adventures. Although his vibrant life was shortened by complications of MDS (myelodyslastic syndrome), he leaves all those who knew him with a simple declaration; realize your dreams and aspiration despite life's challenges.
