Andy was one of my colleagues for many years at Loyola College. I actually audited several of his courses and learned so much about Russian language, literature, and history and learned so much about infectious teaching. He loved his subject matter and it showed in every class. And he loved his students. One of God's gifts to the rest of us.

My condolences to his family. Dr. McCormick was my favorite professor. I took several Russian history courses from him in the mid 1970s. His enthusiasm was infectious. I could feel the wind blowing in from the steppes in our classroom in Maryland Hall! In the last year, watching the Russian/Ukrainian news, I have heard Dr. McCormick's voice in my head. So many of his insights are applicable to today. I ran into him in the Jacksonville Safeway a decade or so ago. His enthusiasm was as strong as ever and it was a delight to see him.

I remember meeting Dr. McCormick my freshman year at Loyola, in 1995. We spent hours discussing Russian Monarchy, the Revolution, and the Soviet Regime.
He was an amazing professor, and a great human being, who will be missed.

Never did I imagine that I would take Russian history as an elementary education major at Loyola. I always took summer classes and I still needed a history class. The only history available was Russian History I. In junior high school, I´d read a few books about Nicholas and Alexandra - and I had to get a history out the way, so Russian history it was. Dr. McCormick remains one of my favorite professors from Loyola - I still mention his name when I talk about my favorite professors, and his teaching method. He was pleasant, outgoing, engaging, and he clearly loved what he was teaching, which made the class so interesting. We had a syllabus, but he did not teach from notes - he knew the subject matter so well. I looked forward to every class, and learned about a subject that I never thought I would study - so much so that I then signed up for his Russian History II class for the 2nd summer semester in 1976. I had a few professors who knew their subject matter but they weren´t good teachers. Dr. McCormick loved his subject matter, and he was one of the best teachers I´ve ever had. May his memory be a blessing to his family, and peers.

My condolences to Andy's family. It was a pleasure to teach with him at Loyola College from 1989 until his retirement. His work with students was always patient and inspirational.

We were so upset when we heard Andy's name in Church. We have fond memories of sharing a meal at Loyola College after the November memorial Mass each year. We also enjoyed talking with Andy leaving Church on Sunday. Rest in Heaven Andy. With our Love,
