Ramaswamy Balakrishnan Obituary

Ramaswamy Balakrishnan, previously of Phoenix MD and more recently of Portola Valley, CA, rejoined his beloved wife Janaki on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Bala was known for his calm demeanor and generosity. Despite being a man of few words, he had a wicked sense of humor and joked to the end. He doted on his four grandchildren and always put his immediate and extended family before himself. He was a skilled physician, beloved by his hospital teams; with his colleagues, he built the cardiac anesthesiology program at St Joseph Hospital (Towson) from the ground up. He is survived by his two children, Aparna and Karthik, four grandchildren, three brothers, and one sister. While Bala will be dearly missed by all who knew him, he had no regrets and looked forward to being reunited with Janaki.

Dear Karthik and Aparna,
Our heartfelt condolences to you on the passing of your father Bala. A gentler soul, you could not find. Bala and Janaki made a wonderful couple and now they would be reunited in heaven. They (along with you two) were there first family we met in the late 80s when we moved to Maryland and the friendship that formed then flourished thereafter. We remember them fondly. They introduced us to Chinmaya Mission and Bala Vihar. We will miss Bala dearly. Take comfort in knowing that your parents are together again and will be watching all of you and smiling proudly.
With deep sympathies,
Janaki and T K Murali
